Biography
(U) Hla Saw, General Secretary, Yakhine Nationalities Progressive Party, Won’t contest, only keen on making party democratic. –Born 27-5-1953 Sittwe, Arakan Buddhist. Matriculated in 1968 and attended RIT but did not graduate. Expelled in 1969 Peninsular Games uprising. 1975 U Thant uprising arrested while attending 5th year. Sentenced to 9 years and released in 1980 with general amnesty. Became private tutor. Involved in 1988 uprising and detained…sentenced to 14 years by a military court…released in 1992… -wife, retired from co-op. 2 daughters; one in accounting. –Write poems with penname Maung Khine Aung, translate for Shwe Amyutay and wave Magazines. Write short stories, Won first prize in 2000 Moe Moe (Inlyar) memorial literature contest…believe there is a need for party to represent Arakan nationalities… Purpose for forming party: need a party to express Arakan people’s voice, sufferings, dream…as it is a democratic party… Hope after election: …you need a platform…believe that the result of 2010 election is the first step for national reform of Burma… I pray too…
